SuperCAT4 Configuration Guide

Choose The Right SuperCAT4+ Model Code.

SuperCAT4 is not one single setup. Start by choosing the model code: standard utility detection, sonde and drain tracing, or cathodic-protection pipeline locating.

Fast buying guidePick the target utility first, then the locator model, then the T1 transmitter and accessories.

01

Identify The Target

Cable avoidance, non-metallic drain route, protected pipeline, telecom cable or long power service.

02

Choose The Locator

Use SuperCAT4+ for broad utilities, SuperCAT4+S for sonde work, or SuperCAT4+CPS for cathodic-protection pipelines.

03

Add Signal Tools

Select the T1 transmitter frequency and accessories for direct connection, clamping, induction, sondes or Flexitrace.

Configuration Options

Which SuperCAT4+ Should I Choose?

Use this as the short decision table before requesting a quote. The model choice depends on the target utility and the locating method.

SuperCAT4+

General Cable Avoidance

Choose when
Choose when the team needs one straightforward locator for common construction, excavation and mixed utility checks.
Typical kit
Pair with a T1 transmitter when the target needs an applied signal through direct connection, clamp or induction.
  • Passive Power and Radio locating
  • Active T1 transmitter locating
  • Sonde and accessory compatible
SuperCAT4+S

Water And Drain Pipes

Choose when
Choose when water, drain, duct or non-metallic pipe tracing is the main job and sonde frequency coverage matters.
Typical kit
Pair with suitable sondes for point locating, or T1-512/640 style workflows and Flexitrace for continuous route tracing.
  • Widest sonde-frequency focus
  • Useful for deeper cast-iron routes
  • Flexitrace workflow with T1
SuperCAT4+CPS

Cathodic Protection Pipelines

Choose when
Choose for oil and gas or metal pipelines using rectified currents as part of a cathodic-protection system.
Typical kit
Use the CPS signal for suitable protected pipelines without applying an additional transmitter signal.
  • CPS signal detection
  • Protected metal pipeline tracing
  • Metric or imperial locator models
T1 Transmitter Choice

Choose Frequency By The Utility, Not By Habit.

Radiodetection notes that higher frequencies suit high-impedance or well-insulated utilities, while lower frequencies travel further on lower-resistance services.

T1-SUPERCAT4+131

High-Frequency T1

Best when the target is hard to couple to, such as well-insulated or high-impedance services.

T1-SUPERCAT4+640

Low-Frequency T1

Best for longer range tracing on lower-resistance services, including many power-line style routes.

T1-SUPERCAT4+640/65

Dual-Frequency T1

Best when crews need both lower-frequency reach and higher-frequency coupling flexibility.

T1-BAG

T1 Carry Bag

Keeps the transmitter kit together for field teams moving between daily excavation or survey jobs.

Sonde And Frequency Compatibility

Check The Combination Before You Choose.

Applications

Three Common Ways To Configure SuperCAT4+.

Protected Pipelines

SuperCAT4+CPS can trace cathodic-protection signals on suitable metal pipelines without disconnecting rectifiers or applying a separate transmitter signal.

Water, Drain And Duct Routes

SuperCAT4+S supports a wide range of sondes, while a T1 transmitter can energize Flexitrace for continuous tracing of non-metallic pipes and conduits.

Power, Telecom And Mixed Utilities

SuperCAT4+ works with the T1 range for direct connection, clamping or induction. Higher frequencies help on insulated or high-impedance utilities.

Features And Methods

How SuperCAT4+ Is Used On Site.

Choose the locating method by access point and utility type, then rely on built-in field feedback to keep the operator moving.

01

Direct Connection

Most effective when a valve, meter, junction box or other access point is available.

02

Signal Clamping

Applies a T1 signal to a pipe or live cable up to 125mm / 5in without interrupting supply.

03

Induction

Convenient when direct connection or clamping is not possible.

04

Sonde / Flexitrace

Traces non-metallic pipes and conduits, with Flexitrace supporting continuous route tracing.

Dynamic Overload Protection

Filters high electrical interference around substations and high-voltage transmission cables so locating can continue in difficult conditions.

Real Sound

Audio is derived from detected signals, helping operators distinguish Power, Radio and Active responses from background noise.

Safety Built In

SuperCAT4+ keeps the familiar C.A.T controls and display, reducing retraining while adding advanced buried-asset targeting.
